Learn to Skate & Skating School
Twin Ponds learn-to-skate is directed by Janice Reinke. Under her guidance and supervision, there is no better way to get down to the basics of learning to ice skate. Twin Ponds Skating School offers the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills program with an extensive variety of group lessons designed to launch skaters from beginners to Olympic hopefuls. If you know how to skate but want to advance your skating ability, the Skating School is for you. The lesson will consist of: 15 minute warm-up, 30 minute lesson time, and then 15 minute practice time.
LEARN TO SKATE & SKATING SCHOOL SESSIONS: The current 8 week series started January 6. You can still sign up for the current session. The next 8 week series will begin the week of March 23rd. The cost for the 8 week series is $102.
Learn to skate classes are offered on Monday evenings, 5:45 – 6:45 pm and Saturdays 9:00 – 10:00 am. These classes are for all ages. Twin Ponds East offers tots only classes for ages 6 and under on Tuesdays, 9:30 – 10:30 am or Thursdays, 1:00 – 2:00 pm if your tot does not want to attend the “all ages” class on Mondays or Saturdays. Pre-registration is required for the tots classes.
A liability waiver must be signed before participating in classes.
Learn to Skate & Skating School Fees:
• $18.00 – Yearly USFS Registration Fee (Valid thru 6/30/20)
• Walk on to any class for $15.00 — if space is available.
SKATING SCHOOL INSTRUCTORS: Janice Reinke, Cindy Ginginger, Amy Henderson, Doris Papenfuss, Lisa Plumeri, Oleg Petrov, Ben Cohen, Morgan Leighow and Madeline Plank.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Properly fitted skates are essential. Skates must fit snugly; do not layer socks. Lace skates so that the boot is snug and secure. If your child has never worn ice skates, we recommend they wear figure skates for at least the first 4 classes before switching to hockey skates. Figures skates will allow the child to get his/her balance much quicker than with a hockey skate.
Layering warm, comfortable clothing such as a warm-up suit, knit pants with a sweater or sweatshirt with long sleeves are highly recommended. Do not wear bulky ski pants, jackets, or hockey pants for this lesson. These do not allow for good movement. Gloves or mittens and a helmet (bike or hockey) are highly recommended for class.
Try to be at class 15 minutes early so you can check in and be ready in time for your lesson.
